This dessert, also known as Carrot Halwa or Gajrela, is one of the most famous North Indian desserts, as the name suggests it is made up of Carrots (gajar), milk, ghee and sugar. Also for garnishing we can use chopped nuts & kesar, which makes it even more delicious and makes it looks better.

so, just get started with this most famous dessert, with the help of this post that I have shared with you all and made it from scratch.

How to make Gajar ka halwa (traditional method)

First of all we require fresh, juicy carrots, I have taken 500gm (1/2 kg) of it, which will serve up to 4 peoples. so, as a first step wash the carrots under running water, and then after peel them and grate it finely using a food processor.

Now, take a pan or a pressure cooker and if you want to add cardamon powder (Elaichi powder), then just take 2-4 cardamon with some cashews, almonds and nuts and roast them well in the pan and then keep them aside in a chopping board until it get cool and then chop them finely.

Next, on the same pan or cooker pour 2 cups of milk and begin to heat it.

Now add the grated carrots that we did earlier, in the milk and cook it well, in between you have to stir it well so, that it will not stick to the bottom of the utensil.

Cook until the milk gets completely evaporated, this will add the halwa its most important flavour because as the milk evaporates, its creaminess is left behind the halwa, which makes it the most delicious dessert of India.

Next, the most important step is sweetness, for which the halwa is known.

Add half a cup of sugar (it totally depends upon you how much you want to add) & stir it well, until the sugar is completely disappeared from the halwa.

Add 1 tablespoon of ghee, into it and stir it well until the halwa gets thickens.

Finally, garnish it well inside a bowl with the nuts and Kesar and serve it and enjoy it.
